Eastleigh based company Tourism South East (TSE) successfully overcame opposition from VisitScotland and London & Partners to win a prestigious award for its marketing of South East England to overseas visitors during 2016.

The award was presented at the UKInbound Gala Dinner in Plymouth. UKInbound CEO Deirdre Wells OBE, commented:

‘We were delighted to name Tourism South East Destination Marketing Company of the Year 2016, at our Annual Convention in Plymouth.

Chosen by an independent panel of industry experts, the win recognises Tourism South East’s innovative use of a modest budget to deliver engaging campaigns and partnerships, that continually inspire people to visit the region.’

Nigel Smith, Chief Executive of TSE which is based in Eastleigh, Hampshire declared he was ‘elated’ to have received the award.

‘Initially we were thrilled to be shortlisted by our peers alongside  VisitScotland and London & Partners, but to actually win is  a fantastic recognition of how we have managed; through building public/private sector partnerships; to deliver focussed, effective and value for money campaigns’.

He added:

‘TSE has for many years been hugely successful in overseas markets such as China, Germany, Netherlands, Scandinavia and the USA.

‘Overseas visitors to the region are now at record levels being worth over £2 billion to the local economy.

‘A great deal of thanks must also go to all our partners, both local authorities and commercial businesses, who have continued to invest in and support our campaigns. This award will certainly inspire us to continue to develop our activity and we have great plans to build on our achievement going forward.’
