Man dies in Pony and Trap accident

A man has died after a late night collision between a car and a pony and trap in Bursledon on Sunday night.

The 33-year-old man, from Guildford, travelling in the trap suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital where he died a short time later.

The police were called to Portsmouth Road shortly after 11.30pm after reports of the collision that involvied a Volkswagen Bora.

The deceased man’s next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

The driver of the car was uninjured.

Both vehicles were travelling along Portsmouth Road heading towards Hamble.

A 28-year-old man from Southampton has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Officers from Hampshire Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit are currently investigating and are keen to talk to anyone who may witnessed the accident or the vehicles involved leading up to the accident and can be contacted by ringing 101.
