Eastleigh beat Tranmere Rovers on Saturday 2-0 in The Vanarama National League to spring leap into the top half of the table.
Goalkeeper Ross Flitney returned to The Silverlake Stadium for his first league fixture since departing the club two seasons ago.
Despite the early pressure from Tranmere, Eastleigh’s Mark Yeates came close after hitting the side-netting after a great run after five minutes.
Tranmere continued to pressure after and The Spitfires were starting to ride their luck after a hand ball appeal shortly after.
Michael Green swung in a pitch-perfect ball after 15 minutes for Ben Williamson only for the striker to header wide.
Chris Zebroski then had a shot blocked followed by a corner to Eastleigh only for Ayo Obileye to head wide.
With the halfway point of the first half approaching, either team never really had good chances.
Yeates did well with a run only for Zebroski to lose his footing.
A corner then followed for Eastleigh shortly after but it came to nothing however they did win a free kick on the edge of the box shortly after.
Yeates stepped up but he couldn’t quite keep the shot down. Tranmere’s 11 then counter attacked but proved no worries for Flitney in goal, only for Flitney to make another great save moments later.
The remaining minutes didn’t see too many chances and it remained 0-0 at halftime with both teams showing promise.
In the second half, Rovers rued a miss from James Norwood, as Williamson redeemed himself from his miss just under the hour mark as he managed to squeeze in a shot to make it 1-0
Craig McAllister made it 2-0 with a great header and Hill’s men managed to see the match out for all three vital points.
