Mark Yeates double earns Eastleigh all three points away to Macclesfield

Mark Yeates’ brace was enough for all three points

Mark Yeates scored twice as Richard Hill’s Spitfires bounced back from their disappointing result during the week and recorded a surprise 2-1 National League win at high-flying Macclesfield.

Macclesfield were enjoying their best spell of the first half when Yeates pounced on an error by goalkeeper Shwan Jalal to tuck home on the stroke of half-time.

Yeates made it a double with a low finish five minutes after the restart, then almost laid on a third for Callum Howe as Eastleigh hit Macclesfield on the break.

Visiting goalkeeper Ross Flitney had frustrated Macclesfield with a string of fine saves but he was denied a clean sheet in the final minute by Danny Whitehead.

Eastleigh take on Chester at home this Saturday in the Vanarama National League.
