The Christmas countdown in Eastleigh town centre officially starts on Saturday 18 Novemberwhen Santa joins the Borough’s Deputy Mayor, Councillor Chris Thomas, to switch on the yuletide lights – and get the festive season under way.
The grand Eastleigh Christmas Lights Switch-On & Fun Day brings a spectacular light parade to the main shopping centre and culminates in a dazzling firework display to start off the festive season with a bang. The parade begins at 5:15pm, with the lights switch-on at 6pm.
The free day out, that runs from 11am, features Santa’s Grotto, entertainment, live music, a fun fair, a mini-farm for the children and a variety of market stalls.
Chair of the Eastleigh Local Area Committee, Councillor Wayne Irish, is looking forward to Saturday’s event and will be joining in with the festivities throughout the day. He said:
‘The Christmas Lights Switch-On & Fun Day is one of the most popular family events in our annual calendar and attracts thousands to the town centre. Our new lights are designed to make Eastleighan attractive place to visit and shop over the festive season.’
The new festive lights display, inspired by snowflakes and stars, was unveiled last year and feedback from town centre shoppers and visitors has been excellent. The lights are co-funded by the Council and the Eastleigh Business Improvement District (BID) and are designed to make the town centre an even more attractive place to shop in the run-up to the big day – benefiting local retailers, restaurants and other businesses.
If you are looking for a special gift, the Sorting Office – Eastleigh’s artist and designer-maker studios – will once again be selling original and unique gift items.
Want to write to Santa? A post box for Christmas letters that will be sent direct to his workshop at the North Pole will open on Saturday 18 November in the Swan Centre. Santa will reply to every letter he gets, care of Eastleigh Library.
