Fryern frys in Funtastic sunshine

Thousands of Chandler’s Ford residents made the most of the Bank Holiday heat-wave at Fryern Recreation ground on Sunday by visiting the annual ‘Funtasia’ May-Fair. Declaring the event open, Mayor Mrs Maureen Sollitt urged the crowd to have ‘fun in the sun’ – in recent years the event hasn’t been blessed with the best weather so people were determined to make the most of the sunshin and first-aiders and community responders had to deal with several youngsters who were feeling the effects of the sun.

As always, there were plenty of activities to keep children amused from pony rides to lessons in giving CPR.  Music was provided by Fryern Junior School Choir – whose pupils also danced round a traditional Maypole – and the Chandler’s Ford Brass Band. The compere Malcolm Eyres – who was the former frontman to local soul legends “Rufus Stone’ – also sang a few songs.

The Funtasia, now run by Chandler’s Ford Parish Council, is in it’s sixth year and is sponsored by a number by local Estate Agent Jonathan Rees. Local businesses sponsored other attractions, sponsors included Gair Gas, Condor, A&A Business Supplies, Peter Green, Hampson Opticians, Draper Tools, Barber Shop, Waitrose and Kingsway Design & Advertising.

All profits will go toward running community centre projects and other Fryern Community good causes.
