Star of the retro platform video game series, Super Mario, took on his latest adventure ahead of the very first Guildhall Games Fest retro and board gaming event coming to Portsmouth Guildhall this weekend.
Taking to Emirates Spinnaker Tower’s platform 25m above sea level, Mario braved the new adrenalin experience, The Drop! Taking a leap into the unknown, Mario’s descent started with a few terrifying seconds of freefall before the rigging kicked in and lowered him safely to the ground.
Bryony Drew, Guildhall Games Fest’s very own Mario cosplayer who braved The Drop, said, “Wow – that was amazing! It was really scary stepping off the platform but once I’d done it I just wanted to have another go!”
Guildhall Games Fest takes place this Saturday 18th August at Portsmouth Guildhall with cosplay positively encouraged!
In partnership with Game Over and Dice Portsmouth, gamers are invited to get their geek on as the ultimate in retro computer and board gaming come together with an unbeatable selection of consoles, games and board games. Enjoy all of your favourites from Pong, Pac Man and Mario to Cluedo, Monopoly and Dead of Winter, plus a retro Arcade VR experience with event sponsors, Novatech.
A daytime session for all the family runs from 11am-5pm with an evening session for over 18s from 6-11pm. Tickets are available in advance at or on the door with free entry to the Guildhall’s Clocktower Classics Car & Family Fun Day on the following day, Sunday 19th August, also included.
