Police search lakes for attack sword

Police have been dragging the lakes at Eastleigh Lakeside Country Park in the hunt for a weapon – believed to be a samurai sword – that was used in bloody doorstep attack on Eastleigh’s Pirelli estate on December 21.

A 23-year-old man from Winchester was found at Heinz Burt Close with a serious head wound and was taken to Southampton General Hospital. Three people arrested after the attack have been released without charge though remain under investigation for related offences. Two 17-year-olds had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, one has since been bailed till January 19 while another has been released without charge but is currently being investigated on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Following the assault police appealed to residents on the estate to check their bins and gardens for the discarded weapon.

A 46-year-old Bursledon man originally arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm was also released without charge and is currently being investigated on suspicion of possession of Class B drug.

In a statement to local press police confirmed they had searching the lake on Saturday (December 28) in connection with the December 21 attack.

This is the second time the police have had to be deployed at Lakeside this month On December 9 a 28-year-old-man from Chandler’s Ford tragically died after he fell in.
