Eastleigh hold on for 2-1 win at home to Braintree

Eastleigh moved up to eighth in the Vanarama National league after a 2-1 home win to last place Braintee as they sit one place below that all important play-off spot on goal difference.

The BT Sports cameras were there at The Silverlake Stadiun as TV presenter and BT Sports’ Jeff Brazier watched on.

The Spitfires top goalscorer this seasonm Paul McCallum, did the damage with two early goals as Eastleigh held on to the win despite being reduced to 10 men.

It was Ben Strevens’ fourth win in a row as McCalllum took the lead in the 14th minute with a great header from Mark Yeates’ corner.

When McCallum added his second from another Yeates inswinger three minutes later, it looked all over and there cause was aided when Eastleigh goalkeeper Luke Southwood saved Callum Morton’s penalty.

However, they ended up having to survive a Braintree revival as Cameron James volleyed in Ricky Gabriel’s pass just before the break.

Eastleigh substitute Cavanagh Miley was sent off for two bookable offences in quick succession but the Spitfires held on to claim maximum points. Eastleigh take on Salford City away on Saturday as they look to continue their fine form.
