You can only imagine the types of presents little girls wish for on their birthdays; usually something with sparkles, their favourite storybook or even a bike. But for these birthday girls and firm friends it was a different story, as they wanted to raise money for Naomi House & Jacksplace instead. Upon sending out their 3rd birthday party invites, they asked people who attended to donate to the local hospices, instead of buying them a present.
Cerys and Heidi kindly asked their guests to pop a donation in their Naomi House & Jacksplace donation box, which totalled at over £180. This is enough to fund three immersive sensory sessions, plus one hour of essential nursing care.
Mums of the girls, Sally and Lisa, said:
‘Birthday parties are such a wonderful time to celebrate and have fun with family and friends and being able to raise money and awareness for Naomi House & Jacksplace at the same time made it extra special for us.’
Karen Coleman, from the fundraising team at Naomi House & Jacksplace, said:
‘Without the loving and innovative support from our local community through fundraising activities such as this, our crucial nursing and family support teams would not be able to be there for families on good days, difficult days or last days. I want to say a huge thank you to these inspirational little fundraisers for being so selfless and generous on a day that’s otherwise meant to be all about them.’
Naomi House & Jacksplace are hospices based in Winchester for children and young adults with life shortening illnesses. The hospices currently care for more than 550 families across central southern England. Each and every year the charity need to raise £9.2 million to be able to offer vital services such as respite care, end of life care and continued post bereavement care to the families who need them most.
The hospices are encouraging people to support them during their birthdays and special occasions by setting up a Fundraiser on Facebook. To find out more about supporting Naomi House on Facebook, visit:
