Barton Peveril’s Rock Challenge Success

A group of Barton Peveril students placed fourth in the Southampton Rock Challenge UK heats, at Southampton’s O2 Guildhall, on Monday 6th March. The annual event sees more than 40 local schools and colleges compete over six days, showcasing their dance, choreography, and performance skills to earn their place in a regional final.

Both first and second year students were part of the Barton Peveril team, with a combination of students who either study dance or pursue it in their spare time at College. The Barton Peveril team came fourth in their heat, winning a series of awards for their performance:

  • Award of Excellence for Stage Crew
  • Award of Excellence for Costuming Character
  • Award of Excellence for Performance Skill
  • Award of Excellence for Choreography
  • Award of Excellence for Stage Use
  • Award of Excellence for Entertainment

The students’ piece served as a remembrance of World War One, following last year’s events marking 100 years since its end.

Speaking on the success of her students, Teacher of Dance Laura Harvey said:

‘I am extremely proud of everyone that was involved in our piece ‘Without You’. The students’ performance showcased their sheer talent, as they produced a moving and emotional performance based on the Remembrance of WW1.’
