Former Spitfire Sam Matthews has signed on loan to Eastleigh in the hope of extending The Spitfires chances of reaching the National League play-offs this season.
The 22-year-old former Bournemouth player returns for his third stint at the club, after agreeing a deal until the end of the season.
Manager Ben Strevens told the official club’s website:
‘It’s great to have a player as popular as Sam back at the club. He already has a good relationship with the players, coaching staff and fans so I’m sure he will be a great addition.
‘He has done really well in previous spells at the club. He adds pace and creativity to our already strong attacking side.’
During his last two seasons at Eastleigh, the midfielder played 42 games whilst on loan from AFC Bournemouth, scoring 9 goals; winning the Players’ Player and Supporters’ Player at the end of the 2017/18 season.
Earlier this summer Sam joined League One side Bristol Rovers on a permanent deal; playing 16 league games and featuring in domestic competitions eight times.
Matthews will be looking to make his third Spitfires debut at home to Hartlepool Town on the 30th of March.
