Customers and Staff at Hedge End’s Sainsbury’s superstore will find themselves the stars of a new BBC reality series as cameras go behind the scenes to document a year in the life of the supermarket.
The series of six 1-hour long episodes which has been given the title of ‘Inside the supermarket’ and coincides with the 150th anniversary Sainsbury’s founding.
Camera teams will follow members of the 600 strong staff at the Hedge End store and also employees at the grocery retailer’s London headquarters and distribution centre at Haydock Park as they get ready for the Christmas, Easter and Mother’s day ‘trading period’.
Emily Smith, commissioning editor of documentaries at the BBC, said:
“This is a really interesting time for retail as a whole, and for supermarkets in particular.
“This series will provide a unique picture of the British supermarket shopper – when we buy, how we buy and what we buy”
