Steve Brine, the MP for Winchester & Chandler’s Ford has written to the leader of the Liberal Democrat group on Winchester City Council to seek assurances over the line her new incoming administration will take on Eastleigh’s draft local plan which proposes the construction of thousands of new homes on Eastleigh’s Winchester border.

Villagers in Winchester’s Southern Parishes are concerned that the development proposals – that includes a new relief road – will impact adversely on village life and local bio-diversity. The previous Conservative council leader had lodged an objection to the plan but Mr Brine is asking Councillor Lucille Thompson, Winchester’s Lib Dem leader, to confirm that Winchester City Council will continue to represent resident’s concerns while under Lib Dem control.

Steve Brine said:

“There are grave concerns among many people about [the local plan’s] impact on the communities I represent. They rightly want to know whether the now Lib Dem led Winchester will stand up to Lib Dem Easteigh on behalf of our District or change the position held by the previous Council leader, Cllr Caroline Horrill.”

Eastleigh News has invited Councillor Thompson to respond.
