Builder Barratt Developments has announced plans to raise £50,000 for Chandler’s Ford based charity the Wessex Cancer Trust.
The housebuilding group which includes Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes, has announced the organisation as its official charity of the year and plans to undertake a variety of challenges and events in aid of the worthy cause. Already staff have laced up their trainers and jointly run a marathon in aid of theTrust. They also plan to take part in the charity’s Walk for Hope event in June and have a range of other fundraising ideas up their sleeves.
The decision came after the loss of a Barratt employee to cancer in recent months.
Managing director Jon Green said:
“Sadly, as we’ve seen first-hand, cancer affects so many people. Wessex Cancer Trust is an amazing charity and we are keen to support these vital community-based resources in any way we can.I know our dedicated team will be doing everything possible to raise as much money as possible.”
Every year around 23,000 people are diagnosed with cancer within the Wessex region. A diagnosis can be a shock and have a huge impact on an entire family. Wessex Cancer Trust helps and supports anyone affected by cancer regardless of age, gender or type of cancer. Its team offers free support for as long as people need it, away from a hospital environment.
Laura Beavis, corporate partnerships and events manager at the charity said:
“We are so thrilled that Barratt Developments has chosen to support us as its charity of the year. We rely on the support of businesses and individuals to help fund the services that we run and £50,000 would make a huge difference to local people affected by cancer.”
Staff at the housebuilder’s Monarchs Keep development in Bursledon are also planning to support the fundraising drive, with several events throughout the year.
