Ben Strevens’ Spitfires have signed three players in a short period of time in former Spitfire Joe Partington, Fulham’s Rob Atkinson and Basingstoke’s Sam Smart.
Partington is no stranger to The Silverlake Stadium, having represented The Spitfires on 81 occasions over the course of two years between 2015 and 2017. At the end of the 2015/16 Vanarama National League season, Partington completed a clean sweep at the clubs End of Season Awards evening winning all four prizes. Partington was made captain of the first team for the 2016/17 season.
Partington now returns to Eastleigh having made 46 appearances for the League One side and helps bolster Strevens midfield options further after the signing of Jack Payne from Ebbsfleet.
Signing Rob Atkinson is a a left footed central defender, Atkinson signed for Fulham from Basingstoke Town. Last season he represented Braintree on loan in the Vanarama National League, making fifteen appearances.
Atkinson played under Eastleigh Assistant manager Jason Bristow when Bristow was previously the First Team Manager at Basingstoke Town.
Atkinson played the full 90 minutes at the Silverlake last season as Braintree frustrated the Spitfires during the second half of the home side’s 2-1 win.
Eastleigh fans will be hopeful of similarly stern performances during the forthcoming campaign.
Lastly The Spitfires confirmed the signing of Sam Smart from Basingstoke Town for the upcoming season.
Smart is a highly rated young winger who has had trials at Sheffield Wednesday and Sunderland during 2018/19. He has played for Basingstoke Town for his entire career and has previously worked under Eastleigh Assistant Manager Jason Bristow.
During the 2017/18 season Smart scored 20 goals in 41 games for Basingstoke Town and managed 2 goals in 11 appearances last season.
