Ben Strevens’ Spitfires got their home pre-season campaign underway in style with a 3-0 victory to a youthful Oxford United.
The League One visitors named a youthful side against The Spitfires as Ben Williamson claimed a brace and Andrew Boyce got Eastleigh’s third.
Williamson opened the scoring for the hosts in the 13th minute after great work from Joe Partington on the right-hand-side. Partington who return to the club in the summer found the striker who finished perfectly to put Eastleigh in front.
Jack McKnight put the ball into Williamson’s path and his left-foot turn and shot sent Oxford’s Jack Stevens the wrong way.
With Eastleigh finishing the break 2-0 up, McKnight nearly turned scorer after Williamson tried to repay the favour and put him through with a clever reverse pass but he took a touch too many and his effort was turned behind.
Moments later in the 52nd minute, Eastleigh did get a deserved third when Andrew Boyce towered above everyone to head home Jack Payne’s corner delivery.
Oxford’s best chance of the game in the 69th minute as the ball broke to Kevin Berkoe on the edge of the box and his fierce shot looked destined to find the top corner, only for Max Stryjek to tip his effort over superbly.
Eastleigh’s number one Max Stryjek kept securing his clean sheet and made an amazing save on 74 minutes to deny Fabio Lopez.
New signing Sam Smart came close to making it four goals on 79 minutes as he hit post , it would of been a perfect way to celebrate his birthday.
Michael Green played noticeably superbly throughout as did the squad in general. The Spitfires take on AFC Stoneham away on Friday evening in what will be a very short trip.
