Youthful Eastleigh side lose to AFC Stoneham 2-1

Ben Strevens’ Spitfires lost 2-1 away to fellow Eastleigh based side AFC Stoneham on Friday evening in a pre-season friendly as the hosts proved too strong for a young Eastleigh side. It was a really friendly atmosphere at the club, something I’m sure AFC Stoneham is looking to achieve.

The hosts found the net after 15 minutes but it was deemed offside as the rain started to pour down. AFC Stoneham’s number 9 provided a great finish to put to put them in front midway through the first half. The Spitfires went into the half 1-0 down as they were certainly getting beat by the better side on the evening.

These young Spitfires were putting in a brave display however as new signing Sam Smart came close with a fantastic free kick early in the second half.

Midway through the second half and AFC Stoneham doubled their lead with a great free kick that gave Ross Flitney no chance in goal.

Eastleigh did get one back with a trialist defender scored a header but it finished to AFC Stoneham in a well earned win for the hosts. Eastleigh take on Salisbury on Tuesday before away to Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday and their final pre-season friendly at home to Southampton U23 on the following Tuesday.

Today, Eastleigh also hosted their fun day as the club showcased their players in a open training session as well as providing live music, family fun entertainment including a petting zoo.
