Poppy Appeal for Eastleigh

The Royal British Legion is urging the great British public to join forces with them this year and volunteer for the charity’s annual Poppy Appeal. Most importantly, volunteer Poppy Appeal Organisers, responsible for areas of Eastleigh and Chandler’s Ford, are needed to run the appeal in these towns this year. With the current organisers standing down from their roles it’s important new volunteers are found as soon as possible!

The Legion is also calling on local people across South Hampshire to show their support for our Armed Forces – past and present – by joining their army of volunteers and dedicating some of their spare time to distribute poppies for donations.

The Legion needs Poppy Collector for their annual appeal and Community Fundraiser, Sarah Ferris, says their support will help the charity continue providing life-long help and support to the Armed Forces community.

Sarah said:

Every year we are astounded by the overwhelming support from the public who give anything from two hours to two weeks of their free time to help out during the Poppy Appeal. It’s our biggest fundraising campaign made possible thanks to the dedication of our volunteers.

The Legion offers life-long support to the Armed Forces community in a number of ways including providing crisis grants, researching the changing impact of blast injuries on the body, lobbying the government on key issues, specialist dementia care, sport and art based recovery programmes and advising on benefits and money problems.

“We couldn’t provide any of this support without the help of our volunteers during the Poppy Appeal,” Sarah added. “Volunteering can provide great opportunities for those involved. It allows the chance to meet new people, learn new and transferable skills and be part of a team that helps the whole Armed Forces family and promotes understanding of Remembrance.”

The Legion is looking for enthusiastic people of all ages and backgrounds. It’s never too early to volunteer for the Poppy Appeal!

Volunteers do not need to have a military background and any age can volunteer for the Legion, although if you’re under the age of 16, you’ll need to be accompanied by an adult.
