Ben Strevens’ Spitfires were defeated 2-1 at home to Barnet yesterday at The Silverlake Stadium in front of 1,922 spectators.
Substitute Shaquile Coulthirst scored a late winner for the visitors as Barnet extended their unbeaten run to four games thanks to a bit of late drama in a narrow 2-1 National League victory over 10-man Eastleigh.
Jack Taylor opened the scoring for Barnet after 16 minutes at Ten Acres as he thundered the ball into the top corner from the edge of the 18-yard box for his third goal of the season.
Barnet looked to double their score and Simeon Akinola fired wide midway through the first half before Jack McKnight sent an Eastleigh chance off target as they sought an equaliser eight minutes before the break.
Tyrone Barnett had a close chance blocked on the line at the start of the second half before he fired another narrowly over as the home side pressed and their leveller finally came after 69 minutes as Joe Partington set up McKnight.
Sam Smart received a second yellow card for diving for the home side with six minutes remaining and Barnet used the extra man to their advantage.
Scott Rendell mised a golden change to win the match for Eastleigh before Coulthirst struck the winner in the fourth minute of time added on down the other end for Barnet. Keeper Scott Loach wasn’t particular humble as he cheered in front of the Eastleigh fans, something Partington had a stern word about.
