Ben Strevens’ Spitfires bounced back from their last-gasp loss to Barnet by beating 10-man Boreham Wood 2-0 last night in front of 1,641 spectators at The Silverlake Stadium.
Eastleigh, who conceded a goal four minutes into stoppage time on Saturday, put that to one side by taking a sixth-minute lead, Ben Williamson making no mistake having been put through one-on-one by Tyrone Barnett. Moment later however Eastleigh could well of been 2-0 up as Williamson couldn’t quite connect with his header from close range.
Charlie Seaman, on loan from Bournemouth, had a particular good debut as the right back was solid yet attacking too throughout.
Danny Hollands doubled the home side’s advantage nine minutes into the second half, nodding in a Jack Payne cross for his third goal in as many games. Marcus Barnes came on for Eastleigh for the remaining 10 minutes or so, who signed from Southampton on loan until January. Barnes joined just days after netting his first goal of the season for Saints’ Premier League 2 side in their defeat to Everton.
Kabongo Tshimanga struck the post for Boreham Wood with eight minutes left before second-half substitute Tom Champion was dismissed for two quick bookings as his side slipped to a fourth defeat in five.
Eastleigh take on Ebbsfleet United away on Saturday as they look to make two consecutive wins in a row for the first time this season.
