Netley’s Chapel Sessions set to welcome back Claude Bourbon

Claude Bourbon returns to Chapel Sessions (St Edwards Church, Netley) on Friday 13th September with his own unique blend of Medieval and Spanish Blues Guitar. Singer/songwriter Claude extensively tours in Europe and USA so they are really pleased that he could fit in Chapel Sessions this year.

It is very hard to describe the almost endless amalgam of different influences in Claude’s playing, all melting into each other, as he moves from classical openings, across a whole continent of cultural roots, from the Balearic’s to the Balkans, and then across to the Mississippi Delta, and shoehorned into all that is music that would not have been out of place in the courts of Emperors and Kings.

This quote probably sums him up as well as any :-

‘Claude weaved his songs through the audience as if on a journey through life taking in different flavours of Europe and beyond. His Spanish medieval blues evolved into Gypsy, Eastern European, with a splash of Paco de Lucia, Delta Blues and more. Holding audience attention under a musical spell.’

Now based in the UK, some of Swiss French singer songwriter Claude’s influences allow us a fascinating insight into this remarkable musician; Paco De Lucia: Deep Purple’s Richie Blackmore; Joaquin Rodrigo; JJ Cale; JS Bach….

They are also pleased to welcome for the first time at Chapel Sessions, local Hamble based guitarist Steve Osman to Support Claude on this ocassion. Steve is a virtuoso guitarist in his own right and luckily he is available to play at our Session, opening for Claude.

Steve has shared the stage with guitar giant Albert Lee, supported pop superstar Midge Ure, Paul Young, Kiki Dee, Al Stewart and many others. His compositions and recordings have been featured on prime time BBC tv and also used by the Musician’s Institute in Hollywood California.

Doors open 7pm, on stage 7.30pm, Real Ale/Wine bar & Tea/Coffee available from 6.30pm in Church Hall.
