Heavy rain interfered with the flowing football as Eastleigh and Chorley cancelled each other out in their National League draw at The Silverlake Stadium on Saturday.
One could only thank all the ground staff to get the game on in the first place as they were there from 7am that morning. It was Non League Day however and a special bumper crowd of 2,053 paid what they wanted with 50% of the gate money going to Vanarama’s official charity partner Prostate Cancer UK.
Both sides struggled in increasingly boggy conditions as there was little let up in the adverse weather. With just one win all season, you’d have thought Chorley would be happy with the away point.
Eastleigh top scorer Danny Hollands had a late overhead kick disallowed for offside as the Spitfires extended their unbeaten run to five matches.
Eastleigh had the better chances and tried to increase the tempo towards the end. Marcus Barnes skimmed the post, and several tricky balls into the box failed to elicit the vital goalscoring touch.
