Eastleigh booked an FA Cup second-round tie at home to League Two side Crewe after seeing off 10-man Stourbridge in front of 1,509 spectators at The Silverlake Stadium.
After the Spitfires side had the better of an entertaining first half, Eastleigh led when Scott Rendell scored from the spot after Sam Smart was brought down in the box.
Seventh-tier Stourbridge had Jordan Williams sent off for fouling Danny Hollands when through on goal, and Smart doubled their lead when Charlie Seaman’s resulting free-kick fell into his path.
Reda Johnson guided home a corner from close range to give Eastleigh the margin of victory their dominance deserved.
The visiting underdogs have reached the first round in six of the past 10 years but were undone largely by winger Smart, who celebrated with a back flip and dedicated it to his late grandad.
I would like to dedicate my goal tonight to my Grandad who unfortunately passed away earlier today ❤️❤️❤️❤️ THAT ONE WAS FOR YOU 💫 https://t.co/44EwhoexJo
