Live Review: Dick Whittington at The Theatre Royal Winchester

It’s Panto Season, and if you love a good pantomime at Christmas, Dick Whittington at The Theatre Royal Winchester won’t disappoint – by Elaine Colley.

This traditional family pantomime, was so much fun, full of jokes, original songs, audience participation and plenty of adult humor to!

The pantomime, tells the story of a man who seeks his fame and fortune in a London ravaged by the sinister King Rat and his rabble of Revolting Rodents.

It was great to see some of the cast regulars back on stage from last year including, Ed Thorpe as Dick Whittington (Wally in last year’s Beauty and the Beast), Julian Eardley as Dame Dolly Dumpling (the theatre’s panto dame for 10 years) and Kristopher Milnes as the villainous King Rat (last year’s brilliantly flirty Bouffon). We loved Jessie Angell, who plays Dick Whittington’s Cat and celebrates her pantomime debut this year

As well as a fabulous cast, there should be a great big shout out to the creative team – The staging and costuming was so impressive and really made the performance!  No wonder James Barry and Simon Slater have been nominated for Musical Achievement at the Great British Pantomime Awards.

It really was a fun evening and the perfect opportunity to unite the family this December and have a laugh.
