Wyvern to get £2 million upgrade

Wyvern all weather sports pitch

Plan for Wyvern’s new all weather sports pitch

Hampshire County Council has agreed to invest £2.2 million to improve facilities for students at Wyvern College i with the first phase of investment focusing on improvements to the outdoor sports facilities and the school’s ICT network.

The Executive Member for Education and Skills at the County Council, Councillor Roz Chadd, commented:

“Schools require a range of facilities to support teaching and learning and enable students to access a good quality education. Additionally, it is essential that the school’s ICT is sufficiently capable of supporting the school’s delivery of the curriculum and maintaining high standards in teaching and learning.”

Wyvern College provides education for up to 1,350 students aged between 11 and 16 years old. In terms of size, Wyvern College’s existing outdoor sports pitch no longer meets the Department for Education’s (DfE’s) guidelines for a school of that size. Therefore, the Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) will be replaced with a larger, floodlit all-Weather Pitch which will also benefit the local community, who will have access outside of school hours.

Among other improvements, the school’s ICT infrastructure, and associated equipment is to be replaced and the wireless network upgraded.

Work is expected to start during the summer term. The school will remain fully operational throughout the planned works with contractors working closely with the school to minimise the impact on teaching and learning, as far as possible.
