Eastleigh Football Club have confirmed the signing of striker Dan Smith from Bognor Regis Town.
The 20-year-old has been a prolific goalscorer in his time with The Rocks, netting 28 goals in 38 games for the Isthmian League Premier Division side.
Smith began his footballing journey with Eastleigh, playing in several youth tournaments before signing with Portsmouth in 2007. He rose through the ranks at Pompey before moving to Bognor in 2019.
‘Eastleigh feels like the perfect move for me at this point in my career, especially being a local lad.
‘I’m ready to test myself at this level and believe I can score goals and play well in the team the gaffer is building.
‘I can’t wait to get started now and I’m really excited to see what we can achieve this season.’
Manager Ben Strevens added:
‘We are delighted to get this deal for Dan over the line. We were eager to get his signature as there was interest from a number of clubs in divisions around and above us, but after speaking with him he expressed his desire to come in and play for us right away.
That’s the attitude I’m looking for in our players and Dan has that so I’m looking forward to seeing him come in and get started with the rest of the squad.’
As Dan is under 24 years of age, Bognor Regis Town will be entitled to compensation. With both teams unable to agree on a fee, it will be decided by a tribunal which will be held at a later date
