Police and emergency services – a total of five police cars, two ambulances and the Hampshire and IOW Air Ambulance – all converged on Derby Rd earlier this evening (October 16) after it was reported a boy had been knocked off his bicycle.

A 16 year-old student on his way home from college had been in collision with a burgundy Ford Galaxy being driven by a Chandlers Ford woman at about 4pm.

There was traffic disruption as Southampton Rd, Derby Rd and Desborough Rd had closures as traffic was diverted away from the area so emergency services could deal with the incident while the presence of the Air Ambulance soon drew a crowd of spectators to Grantham Green.

Fortunately, the chopper wasn’t needed and the young man was taken to Southampton General Hospital by road in a conventional ambulance for treatment to a head wound and minor injuries.
