Bungling burglars who stole gas boilers from an Eastleigh building on Bank Holiday Monday may have received more than they bargained for when they cut through live electricity cables while stealing over £7,000 worth of new Combi gas boilers
The Thieves struck at the new ‘Sirocco Park’ estate on Passfield Avenue  opposite Fleming Park Leisure Centre.where developers Bellway have 200 homes in various stages of construction..
Thieves forced a rear door to an unfinished block of two bedroom flats,
eight flats were entered and the newly fitted boilers worth, about £900 each, were removed leaving behind the wall brackets. Burglars turned off the gas and water supply to the combi’s and cut through the electricity cables.
Police believe whoever cut the electricity cable may have received a shock and burns.
The stolen units are branded ‘Ideal Logic Code 38’ combi gas boilers, weigh about 41 kgs each and are about 830 mm high x 395 mm wide.
Every boiler has its own log book and unique serial number, so if placed elsewhere a Corgi registered service engineer would be alerted if the serial numbers were checked.
Police say the suspects would have needed good knowledge to be able to commit this type of crime and likely to have used a vehicle, which may have been parked in Dew Lane.
Pc 21752 Ella Knight is investigating the incident has appealed
for information from anyone who saw activity or vehicles on the building site between Friday and Tuesday, May 4 – 7 and warned:
“Anyone who is offered the stolen boilers should be aware that the wall brackets are missing, and you will not be able to get them serviced in accordance with Corgi standard systems” .
Anyone with information about the theft or the boilers is asked to contact PC Knight at Eastleigh on 101.
