An area in the Borough of Eastleigh has been named in the top ten desirable places to live in England.

The SO53 postcode area, which covers the Chandler’s Ford and Hiltingbury neighbourhoods, was placed at number six in a list of locations rated by factors including work-life balance, employment prospects, average commuting times, affordable housing , access to good schools and the amount of parks and green space they offer.

The study was carried out over the past two years by the Centre for Economic and Business Research and the Royal Mail. It used a range of authoritative sources, including the 2011 Census, the Department for Communities and Local Government’s Indices of Multiple Deprivation, General Land Use database and Office for National Statistics data.

The study is the latest to rate the Borough of Eastleigh as one of the best places to live in the UK. A study of quality of life indicators, published in December 2015 by the Halifax banking chain, put the borough at number 18 in the national rankings.

Steve Rooney, Head of Royal Mail’s Address Management Unit, said:

‘This new report builds on the study that we commissioned two years ago and provides unique insight into the most desirable places to live and work, through the lens of the postcode.’

Councillor Keith House, Leader of Eastleigh Borough Council, said:

‘As a Council we’re committed to promoting the health and wellbeing of our residents and prosperity and environmental sustainability across our Borough, and it is good to see another study that confirms Eastleigh’s status as a place that offers an excellent quality of life.’
