Eastleigh manager Richard Hill has managed to secure the services of midfielder Brian Howard until the end of the season following his short term spell at Oxford United.
Howard, who was born in Winchester and has family close by, has played for number of league clubs in his career including Reading, Portsmouth, Birmingham City and Barnsley where he made over 100 appearances.
The midfielder will go straight into the squad for Sunday’s Vanarama fixture at home to Altrincham (3pm kick off).
Manager Richard Hill spoke for the official website about the signing and said:
‘I am delighted to have secured a player of Brian’s calibre.
He is a talented footballer who has played for some impressive clubs at a very good level.
I am sure he will be a great addition to the squad. He has trained with us numerous times over the last couple of seasons.
He is obviously a local lad which is also great for the fans and I am sure he will be given a warm reception this weekend.’
Meanwhile the Spitfires managed to keep their play-off spot for another day with a 1-1 draw away to Woking yesterday despite being denied all three points in the last few minutes of the game.
Player/Assistant manager Craig McAllister managed to get on the end of a free kick to secure his eighth of goal of the season only for Woking’s Jack Marriott to score in the dying minutes to send the teams level.
