Detectives at Eastleigh have released a CCTV image of a man they say may have vital information about the theft of jewellery from a house near Netley Abbey.
The house was burgled sometime between 11.30am and 2pm Sunday, October 27.
Householders returned to find about £450 worth of jewellery missing. Stolen items include a very small pair of gold earrings, each with a small green stone; a Japanese-style jewellery box, £200 of assorted low-value jewellery, an opal ring and a quantity of spirits.
The man in the CCTV was in the area at the time of the burglary. Detectives said he may have seen someone acting suspiciously in the area.
Detective Constable Scott Spafford who is leading the investigation said:
“Burglaries in Netley Abbey are few and far between. Were you in that area at Sunday lunchtime? Did you see anything or anyone unusual close to Netley Abbey itself?”
He also reminded residents to ensure lights are on or timers are used, now that clocks have gone back, to make it appear that someone is home.
Anyone with information about the man in the CCTV image is asked to contact DC Spafford at Eastleigh CID on 101.
