An Eastleigh man has been jailed for causing the explosion in Chadwick Road last April which badly damaged a car and van parked in a driveway and caused the road be cordoned off for 18 hours
Robert White 19 of Truro Rise, Bishopstoke had denied making and placing a pipe bomb under a car belonging to his uncle’s neighbour with whom his uncle had been in dispute.
However a jury at Southampton Crown court found him guilty of ‘causing an explosion and endangering life or causing serious injury to property’ and Judge Peter Ralls QC sentenced him to seven years imprisonment.
The Chadwick Rd explosion had been the second explosive device to have been detonated in Eastleigh in three months – a £50,000 Gatso speed camera in Bishopstoke was also blown up in January – although so far no one has been arrested or charged with the incident.
Seven years seems a bit OTT for what seems to be a rather stupid prank by a young man – especially considering nobody was hurt and the damage was restricted. What do you think?
