Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service needs more people in the Test Valley area to join its successful team of volunteers.
The requirement is not for firefighters, but for people who would like to support their local area.
The existing network of volunteers have already made a real difference to their local communities, with projects as wide ranging as road safety education projects to working with the equine community in the New Forest.
Lee Joss, Volunteer Coordinator said:
“We recruit and train volunteers to provide new skills and perspectives within the Service. Joining our team of volunteers could open up a whole host of opportunities for you. You could be involved with anything from assisting with home safety visits, attending local events and talks to promote fire safety, to giving fire prevention advice, informing us of potential fire hazards and partaking in role play to assist firefighters with their training.”
Although the posts are unpaid, volunteers can claim out of pocket expenses such as travel.
Volunteers should be at least 18 years old and able to answer “yes” to the following questions:
• Do you want to make the most of your spare time?
• Are you prepared to make a commitment and make a difference?
• Do you enjoy meeting new people?
• Would you like to have professional training and experience that will benefit all aspects of your life?
• Would you like to build on existing skills and develop new ones?
As a volunteer you will make a vital contribution by helping to provide fire safety advice and practical assistance to your community.
You will receive comprehensive training and be provided with appropriate clothing. Please note you will not be required to attend operational incidents.
You don’t have to want to be a firefighter to volunteer! Volunteers come from all walks of life. No matter what your skills and knowledge are, the most important thing is your time and commitment.
