In 2017 41 schools from across Hampshire will travel to compete in Rock Challenge® events at the O2 Guildhall in Southampton. Cantell School, Great Oaks School and St Anne’s Catholic School will all celebrate ten years involvement in Rock Challenge® in 2017, a fantastic achievement which shows true dedication and commitment to the event and one which they will receive a gold frame to commemorate on their event day.
Richard Taunton Sixth Form College will be returning to compete in Southampton after a successful 2016 which saw them qualify to the Southern Open Finals with their piece ‘Illness of the Mind’ and go on to place second in the competition! On top of this they received recognition in the National Awards, which see schools from across Scotland and the north and south of England compete, winning the National Rock Challenge® Open Award for Costuming Character for their bold and well-made designs. They will be looking to build on this success in 2017.
Also returning after their success in 2016 will be Braishfield Primary School, who came first in their event last year and went on to compete in the Southern Junior Final, where they won Awards of Excellence for concept, drama, choreography, soundtrack, and lighting. They will no doubt be hoping to repeat these achievements in 2017!
Calmore Junior School are one of only two J Rock™ Premier teams, thanks to success in 2016 with ‘If you go down to the woods’, a performance which saw them win both their open event and the Southern Junior Final in 2016! They will be showcasing their performance on Thursday 16th February, and have automatically qualified for a place at our Southern Junior final in April at Portsmouth Guildhall.
In 2017 UNSS le Havre will travel over 300 miles to Southampton to compete in 2017 Rock Challenge® at the O2 Guildhall! Le Havre previously entered the competition in 2003 placing second with their piece “The One Who Stole the Light”, a success that they will be looking to emulate in 2017.
The Supervising Event Manager for the UK Rock Challenge®, Sophia Campbell comments:
‘Every year I am so impressed by the effort put into Rock Challenge® by all the schools involved in the competitions.
‘The range of performances and ideas is always so diverse and I can’t wait to see what everyone has come up with this year! Entering rock challenge can have such a positive impact on a young person’s life, as we strive to promote a drug free high and healthy lifestyle; attitudes which I believe to be incredibly important.’
