Ian Baird’s Spitfires defeated the ‘Seagulls’ (Weston-Super-Mare AFC) 0-2 at the Woodspring Stadium on Tuesday in their last game of 2010.
Goals from Richard Graham on the 30th minute and a powering header from Ross Bottomley’s on the 45th minute secured Eastleigh a convincing away win that powers them into ninth place. Eastleigh are now only three points away from an all important playoff spot and eight points away from the top.
The Start of 2011 sees the Spitfires playing against Farnborough away on New Year’s day (today).
Farnborough’s last match saw them draw to Basingstoke at home 1-1 but this will be a tough task for Eastleigh as Farnborough are unbeaten at home since the 18th of August where they lost 1:2 to Ebbsfleet United.
Steve King’s team currently sit nicely in third place and seven points above ninth placed Eastleigh.
Eastleigh manager and former Saints striker Ian Baird played for Farnborough ten years ago so it will be even sweeter if his side can beat them.
The Yellows (Farnborough) are a newly promoted team in the Blue Square Bet South. Farnborough was originally called Farnborough Town FC until 2007.
The last time the Spitfires played Farnborough was in the FA Cup two years ago, when the match finished 1:0 to the Spitfires after a goal from Anthony Riviere. Seven players from that match line up still play for the Spitfires.
Farnborough will go in to this match as favourites but Eastleigh have been good on the road and come into this game unbeaten in their last six away games.
