Outrage as Mail prints Lib Dem flyers

Publishers of pro- conservative newspaper The Daily Mail – which has been investigating alleged election overspending on leaflets by Chris Huhne – are now printing his leaflets for him.

Conservatives in Botley had been up in arms over the latest mail shot from Eastleigh Lib Dems, claiming that the four page full colour ‘newspaper’ styled flyer entitled ‘Botley Parish Voice’ has been deliberately designed to resemble a free Parish Council Magazine – even carrying the word FREE in the masthead.

However they were amazed on reading the imprint to discover it had been printed by Harmsworth Printing – whose parent company is the Daily Mail and General Trust – which also prints The Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday.

The leaflet carries the headline ‘Outrage’ and roundly attacks Conservative policies and coalition spending cuts on every single page.

Although the copy carries several pictures of Mr Huhne, he is not mentioned by name once.

The disgruntled Conservative activist who sent a copy of the leaflet to Eastleigh News explained:

“Mr Huhne is now toxic for most voters and we think he will need to find himself a safer seat.

Even the local Lib Dems are sick of him and want to see him replaced him by Sandi Toksvig.”

A suitable replacement?

I don’t really see what all the fuss is about…?

A company that is owned by the Tory-supporting Daily Mail is also publishing leaflets for the local Lib Dems…?

Big Deal. I thought the Tories were supportive of free enterprise and market forces…?

Only when it suits them it seems…!

If we develop their argument further, the Tories seem to be arguing that any business that is owned by or otherwise supportive of the Tories shouldn’t also do business with the Lib Dems or anybody who supports them…?

That’s no way to run a business.
No way to run a country.
No way to run the Parish…!

It seems to me that the grass-roots Tories would instinctively censor everything they possibly could, so that there is nothing that criticises them..?

Don’t laugh. It already happens on the Blue Blog. Try posting a vaguely critical comment there and see what happens…!

p.s. I wondered if our other local career politician, Keith House, would be stepping into Chris Huhne’s shoes, when he vacates them…?

I find it fascinating that the Daily Mail who have queried Lib Dem spending on election materials are now befitting from it.
The Daily Mail have been quite critical of Huhne so it seems strange they should be printing his material or that his agent , Anne Winstanley should want to put business their way.

The copy also suggests that the local Lib Dems want to distance themselves both from Mr Huhne and coalition cuts.

I don’t think Mr House will want to stand and
run the risk of being interviewed by Michael Crick again after what happened last time.

LoL. Hadn’t seen that previously. Judging by the haircut, it looks like it was quite a long time ago and as he always seems on top of his game these days, Keith does seem to have learned the lesson…

Its good to see that some things in politics never ever change. fair play to the Daily Mail if they did the printing. I can only assume that the quality was ok, otherwise they would not have been distributed. Still, I suppose the Lib Dems would want to deflect attention away from the recent shocking publicity they have had over Chris Huhne and the election expenses incident. As I said, things never change!!!

I too was amused to see the video clip of Keith House having on that occasion lost his ‘glib retorts’ I guess he has learned a lot from his many different council seats ( last count 7 different bodies he now sits on ), mostly how to side track awkward questions.
